Try Possessor(s) for free on Steam. The stylish action-platformer from Summer Game Fest 2025 blends fast-paced combat with a unique art style. Demo now available.
If you enjoy fast-paced action and tight 2D platforming, Possessor(s) might be your next obsession. Revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025, the upcoming game from developer Heart Machine (known for Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash) now has a free demo available on Steam.
In Possessor(s), players control Luca and Rehm, two entities trapped in the same body and exploring a quarantined city struck by an interdimensional catastrophe. The game features slick movement, intense combat, and a haunting, vibrant aesthetic that fans of stylish indies will instantly recognize. The demo offers a short but dense slice of gameplay, giving players a feel for its combat, story tone, and world design.
A blend of Metroidvania and cinematic action
The developers describe Possessor(s) as an “action platformer with Metroidvania elements”. Level design encourages exploration, backtracking, and creative combat. What sets the game apart is its presentation, everything from animations to camera work has a cinematic flair, blending hand-drawn and 3D styles in a seamless, moody atmosphere.
The playable demo doesn’t reveal too much of the story, but what’s there is enough to spark curiosity. The dual protagonist dynamic, where two consciousnesses coexist and influence gameplay, hints at a deeper narrative than your average platformer. Combined with music by Disasterpeace, the atmosphere is both eerie and captivating.
A strong demo with high expectations
While the full release is still ahead, the demo of Possessor(s) shows a high level of polish and creativity. It’s short, but it successfully sets the tone and leaves players wanting more. If you’re a fan of Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, or Katana ZERO, this is definitely worth a look.
